2023 CKCF Spring Soirée

CKCF hosted the 2023 Spring Soirée on Saturday, May 6 at the Sand Creek Event Center (Newton). The Spring Soirée is a fundraising and recognition event that supports of Central Kansas Community Foundation, host to 18 affiliate foundations across Central Kansas.

2023 Volunteers & Philanthropists of the Year

At our regional Spring Soirée, we recognized exceptional volunteers and philanthropists from across the region. The following individuals and organizations were nominated by our affiliate foundations and were recognized during a short ceremony at the Spring Soirée.

Douglas Community Foundation
Richard Kinion – 2023 Volunteer of the Year

Richard is the President of the Douglass Senior Center and is a tireless champion of the mission to serve the seniors of the Douglass Community. From fundraisers to events Mr. Kinion is always available to lend a hand and is a vital servant leader in the Douglass community.

Marcia Taylor-Trump – 2023 Volunteer of the Year

As chair of the Foundation, Marcia has worked vigorously to spread information about the news of this great organization. She sometimes claims it was the “Best Kept Secret in Elk County” but that is changing because of her dedication. Her efforts expand beyond the Foundation work to include volunteering at her church, a women’s organization and the local historical society. Marcia is a tireless and dedicated volunteer within the Elk County area.

Florence Community Foundation
Randy and Judy Mills – 2023 Volunteers & Philanthropists of the Year

Randy and Judy are cornerstones in the Florence community. They are members of many boards and city functions and are always one of the first to volunteer through hard work or financial support. The town would be far less than it is without them.

John and Laura Goerzen – 2023 Philanthropists of the Year

John and Laura have shown their passion for the Goessel Community by consistently giving solid financial gifts to the Goessel Community Foundation for several years.

Kathy Decker – 2023 Volunteer of the Year

Kathy is a volunteer at heart. She volunteers her time when and wherever asked. You will see her at many events volunteering including the election poll, her church, Parkside Homes, and the Hillsboro Community Foundation.

Cynthia and Roger Fleming – 2023 Philanthropists of the Year

Cynthia and Roger Fleming support many different organizations and Hillsboro and the surrounding area. They have giving hearts and have always been a great friend of the Hillsboro Community Foundation.

Chris Conrade, with Conrade Insurance – 2023 Volunteer of the Year

Chris and the crew at Conrade Insurance are the first to get involved when a problem arises that needs a solution; from the Fox Meadows Fire Response to the Slate Creek All Together Now Playground Fundraiser, they can be counted on for their dedication. When one thinks of Newton, the 3 C’s come to mind: Conrade, Caring, Community.

Ann Adrian – 2023 Volunteer of the Year

Ann’s tireless work as co-chair of the fundraising campaign and tireless advocate for the new library has been extraordinary, resulting in a campaign that not only met its original fundraising goal, but surpassed it when the building costs rose. The library and community will benefit from her work for years to come.

Barbara and Bob Bunting – 2023 Philanthropists of the Year

The Buntings have played a pivotal role in the success of the library building campaign through their generosity, with a critical lead gift that provided momentum and excitement for the project and laid a foundation for a successful campaign. Their longstanding support of the library will ensure that Newton and surrounding communities have a thriving library for years to come.

North Newton Community Foundation
Jim and Shirley Goering – 2023 Volunteers & Philanthropists of the Year

Jim and Shirley were the primary impetus behind the North Newton Community Foundation from inception until Jim’s passing a year ago. Simply said by the current board chair, they made it happen, both with work and financial support.

Peabody Community Foundation
NM and Norma Patton – 2023 Volunteers & Philanthropists of the Year

NM and Norma are a philanthropist/volunteer team. NM was a founding board member of Peabody Community Foundation in 2000 and chaired the board for two, six-year terms. His vision for broad support of charitable causes in Peabody is unmatched. Aside from the foundation, he led a campaign to replace playground equipment in a Peabody park and opened an endowment for its ongoing maintenance. In addition to NM’s important efforts in the community, Norma has generously supported an endowed scholarship at the Peabody United Methodist Church.

Don Patry – 2023 Volunteer of the Year

Don was one of the founders who established what has become the Remington Area Community Foundation. His volunteer activities include helping with Lions Club, at the Ronald McDonald House and Red Cross with the Knights of Columbus…just to name a few. Don is a community-oriented thinker who gives of his time and resources to assist the local community in various ways.

Linda Klaassen – 2023 Philanthropist of the Year

Linda was a founder of the original Remington Area Community Foundation and has been a generous donor to the foundation and community projects.

Women’s Community Foundation
Barbara Bunting – 2023 Volunteer of the Year

Barbara has served on the Women’s Community Foundation board and was an integral part in raising record-breaking funds for grant making. She worked diligently through a restructure of the organization and spent a great deal of time managing the Facebook page.

The Saab Family – 2023 Philanthropist of the Year

Jan Saab was a Women’s Community Foundation member in its early stages. She played an important part in helping WCF grow to what it is today. Upon her passing, the WCF board organized its first endowment fund naming it after Jan with her husband, Fred Saab’s, blessing. Since that time Fred and his entire family have been supporters of Jan’s endowment fund. Upon Fred Saab’s passing, the Saab family designated memorials to the endowment fund.
